Frequently asked questions

Most smartphones made after 2019 support eSIM, iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20+, Google Pixel 3+ and most flagship Android devices from 2020 onwards. Your phone must also be network-unlocked. Check Settings → General → About for "Available SIM" or "eSIM" on iPhone or Settings → Connections → SIM Manager on Android.
Yes. Your UK SIM card stays in your phone as normal. SimScrubs installs as a second eSIM alongside it. You set SimScrubs as your default data connection and your UK number remains fully active for calls, texts and banking verification codes.
If your hospital has good WiFi and you mainly need data on days off and during the commute, Essentials (10GB from £8.95 ) is sufficient. If you're using maps, social media and calling home a few times a week, Placement (20GB from £13.95 ) is our most popular choice. If you're video calling every night, streaming or sharing a hotspot, Placement Pro (50GB from £27.95 ) gives you the headroom.
After checkout you'll receive a QR code by email. On iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Add Data Plan → scan the QR code. On Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add Mobile Plan → scan. The whole process takes under 2 minutes. We recommend installing at home before your flight rather than at the airport.
Your data connection pauses rather than incurring additional charges. You can purchase a top-up data pack from your account dashboard at any time to continue using data before your renewal date.
Log into your account, go to Subscriptions and cancel before your next renewal date. As long as you cancel before the renewal, you won't be charged again. No cancellation fees, no phone calls required, no forms to fill in.
Yes. SimScrubs works for any UK healthcare professional on an international placement, doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacists, midwives, radiographers and more. Same plans, same destinations, same price.
Some countries have restrictions on VoIP services like WhatsApp calls and FaceTime. These restrictions apply to all data connections in those countries, not just eSIMs. Regular WhatsApp messaging works fine — it is specifically voice and video calls over apps that may be affected in certain destinations. Standard phone calls on your UK SIM are unaffected. Check the regulations for your specific destination before you travel.
Yes. Your SimScrubs eSIM stays installed on your phone. If you cancel and then go on another placement, simply reactivate your subscription and your existing eSIM will start receiving data again. No need to reinstall anything.
